Volunteer Ministers Bring the Spirit of Volunteerism
The bright yellow pavilion of the Scientology Volunteer Ministers European Continental Cavalcade arrived in Senigallia, Italy, standing proudly in front of the historic Rocca Roveresca. The exhibit brought to the city its message of help, along with practical tools and training to strengthen the volunteer spirit that is central to Italian life.
Senigallia, known for its vibrant summer life, is a community that understands the value of volunteers. In 2022, after devastating floods, Volunteer Ministers (VMs) joined local rescue and relief efforts, working side by side with Civil Protection and other organizations.
City officials, volunteers and residents welcomed the Cavalcade at its opening ceremony, which drew hundreds and filled the square with a spirit of unity, resilience and service. A lively swing dance performance paid tribute to Senigallia’s world-famous Summer Jamboree, blending celebration with a shared commitment to helping others.
The President of the Civil Protection of Senigallia highlighted the importance of volunteerism, stating that every act of volunteer work is of the same value as the work of a professional who comes to help. A senator from the Marche region echoed the sentiment: “Volunteering is not only necessary—it is one of the great strengths of this country, something Italy has more of than many other parts of the world.”
Inside the tri-peak, visitors explored informative displays and discovered simple, practical methods for communicating clearly, improving study skills and tackling everyday problems. As one example of the many personal stories, a young man came to the Cavalcade with a recent injury. He got an assist—a technique developed by Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard to relieve pain, stress and the effects of trauma—and felt very much relieved. He later returned with his father, who had issues with his legs since the floods in 2022. The father also received an assist. The son then started on the Assists for Illnesses & Injuries course, equipping himself with Scientology Technology to continue helping his father.
Six university students toured the displays and registered for online VM courses, determined to complete all 19 courses and apply what they learn in their daily lives.
In Senigallia, as across Italy, volunteerism continues to stand as one of the nation’s greatest strengths—built on compassion, cooperation and the willingness to act. The Volunteer Ministers embody that spirit, giving people tools to help others and proving that, together, “Something Can Be Done About It.”
